San Diego Book Arts and UCSD Libraries are co-sponsoring Festival of the Book, a series of exhibitions, lectures and a film screening to celebrate handmade and rare books.
The festival begins with "Books in Miniature." The exhibit, which is on display now through Sept. 16 at UCSD's Geisel Library, features miniature books from the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library at UCLA. Miniature books are no more than three inches in size.
They range from diminutive bibles and antiquarian volumes dating back to the 1700s to locket and picture books. Some of the books are so tiny that they require a magnifying glass. Festival of the Book continues Sept. 20 through Oct. 31 with more than 60 artists' books on display at Geisel Library. For more information, visit www.sandiegobookarts.org.
